A Letter from the Dean
Friends and colleagues:

These words, written over 60 years ago by my grandfather, have inspired me throughout my career and guided me to UL Lafayette seventeen years ago. As a College of Education Dean, he advocated for teacher education and noted that quality teacher education is the method to improve the human race and provide students with their first step toward college. The story of the Lab School
Just say the words “Lab School” among UL Lafayette College of Education faculty and you are bound to hear nostalgic recollections of a wonderful experience at the original Hamilton Laboratory School. You’ll also hear regret for its closing or a sense of longing for a new laboratory school to help with teacher preparation and best practice immersion. However, the responses recently included buzzing excitement over the prospect of a freshly imagined laboratory school on the UL Lafayette campus to serve Acadiana’s upcoming generations. Read more
Developing future educational leaders for area schools
For the past several years, the Department of Educational Foundations and Leadership faculty has been working closely with area school districts to develop their teachers into effective and successful educational leaders. Due to retirements and the scarcity of certified educational leaders, school districts across the state have faced a growing shortage of administrators to run and supervise their schools. Districts need to find ways to develop new leaders who are prepared to meet the challenges of 21st century. Read more
ECOVR: Ecology in Virtual Reality
To save the coast, we have to know the coast—what it gives us and how its loss will change our lives. My lesson plans are designed to make these connections. When students immerse themselves in the coast's beauty and bounty, they will not only expand their view of the world, they will also learn how to save the landscape in their own backyard. Read more
Does sleep quality affect performance of divison 1 athletes?
On some days, weeks, or months, college athletes seem to perform at an incredibly high level. On other days, weeks, or months, college athletes seem to under perform. The reasoning behind the fluctuations in athletic performance is multifaceted and requires a full understanding of the student athlete beyond just how he or she performs during competition. Read more
