A Letter from the Dean
Friends and colleagues:
As this semester comes to an end, I am honored to share a few notes about the College of Education. The semester has flown by and faculty have been quite active. We are thankful for all their efforts to improve education and health in the Acadiana region, the state and the nation. They have achieved much in their teaching, research and service. This newsletter has a sampling of information about what's been happening in the College. The students have continued to be productive and creative. New Master of Arts in Teaching in Elementary Education and French Immersion
The M.A.T. French Immersion program is a 14 month field intensive program that trains future French immersion teachers in language, content, and immersion method. The program is targeted to French majors, former immersion students, and current international teachers looking to change from an international certification to a Louisiana certification. Read More
Laboratory School Update: Gaining Perspective & Preparing for Design
The fall semester opened doors to new and exciting collaborations for the laboratory school project. In alignment with the University’s strategic plan initiative to increase collaboration across colleges, the lab school design team has been working with architecture students and faculty to create an architecture proposal brief and design competition. Education Professor Helps Establish a School in Rural Nigeria
Since 2015, Dr. Nancy Autin, associate professor in Educational Foundations & Leadership in the College of Education at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, has helped to establish and direct the Raphael & Evelyn Education Foundation, a nonprofit whose mission is to build schools in rural Nigeria. Dr. Autin is the Vice President and Board of Directors Chair for the organization. Read More
Brand New School, Brand New Program: Building a Comprehensive School Program from the Ground Up
A collaborative partnership between the UL Lafayette Counselor Education Program and the Lafayette Parish School System has worked to establish a comprehensive school counseling program at the E.J. Sam Accelerated Development School of Lafayette (EJS). Read More
UL LIFE Program Welcomes New Students and New Components
Fall 2018 for the UL LIFE Program has been full of excitement! The UL LIFE Program started off by welcoming four new freshman into the program and congratulating all of the other students on moving up another year. Getting in the groove of the semester is always a process, but once our students adjust, time does not slow down. We blinked and it was almost October, which meant it was time to start thinking of what was next for the UL LIFE Program. Read More
Dr. Scott Fuller investigates native shrub used in Creole folk remedies to combat obesity and Type 2 diabetes
The quest to counter a host of modern maladies has taken researchers to the roots of traditional medicine in Louisiana. A University of Louisiana at Lafayette exercise scientist was among investigators who concluded that groundsel bush – a shrub native to the state used in Creole folk remedies until the early 20th century – could combat obesity and Type 2 diabetes.
