Parent's Lagniappe Programs

2015

Pre-school Parent Information Night
What: Information session for Parents of Pre-school children with high ability of high ability potential.

Who: Parents of children ages 3-5

When: February 2015 (date tba)

Where: Lafayette

Details coming soon: Registration in January

For Children: During this informational session for parents, children will have a story time session.  Candidates in early childhood education will read and discuss books.  Children can come in their pajamas for this bedtime story adventure.

For Parents: This session is designed to provide information on the characteristics and behaviors of high ability pre-school children, and how these behaviors may be demonstrated at home and in a school setting.  The session will also share ways you can support and advocate for your child.

What: Professional Development for All Educators!!

Who: Educators & Homeschool Parents

Theme: Academic Challenge vs. Intellectual Stimulation    

Where: Lafayette

When: June 3-5

     Participants can attend 1, 2, or all 3 days

     Parent Night is June 4th evening

Children's Lagniappe Programs

2015

Grades 7th-10th
What: Summer Scholars Program (Residential & Commuter)

Who: students going into 7th-10th grades in Fall 2015

When: one week: Sunday, June 21 (5:00 p.m.) - Friday, June 26 (12:00 noon)

Grades 1st-6th
What: Academic Enrichment Program

Who: students going into 1st-6th grades in Fall 2015

When: 2 weeks: June 8-11 and June 15-18

     (students may choose to participate one week or both weeks)

Grades Pre-K & K
What: Academic Enrichment Program Pre-K/K

Who: students going into Pre-Kindergarten for 4 year olds (Pre-K 4) and Kindergarten (K) in Fall 2015

When: 2 weeks: June 8-11 and June 15-18

     (students may choose to participate one week or both weeks)

Registration and course descriptions coming in spring 2015.

Testing for admission to any of the programs offered by the Center for Gifted Education will begin in January. The programs are geared for children with high ability of high ability potential. If your Pre-K to 3rd grade child needs to be tested for admission, please email the following information to be put on the list:

     1. Parent name, address, phone number, and preferred email address

     2. Child's name, date of birth, and grade level (or year child will enter K)

The work of the center is guided by the

Center for Gifted Education Steering Committee.

This committee serves as a support system
and helps to guide how to enhance services
and create partnerships for the benefit of
the University, College of Education, and community.

MISSION STATEMENT:

The Center for Gifted Education mission is to
a) support the needs of gifted and talented students and those with gifted
and talented potential through faciltating advocacy efforts,
b) provide research-based information about the needs of gifted
and talented students with all stakeholders, and
c) build relationships with educators as well as the general public.
