Alternative Certification
The field-based components for students qualifying for
alternative teacher certificates under the requirements
established by the Louisiana Department of Education
are INTERNSHIPS and PRACTICUMS
ELIGIBILITY:
- Baccalaureate
degree or higher GPA of 2.5 or better overall;
- 2.5
in specialty area and in education courses with grade
of "C" or better
- Satisfactory
NTE scores
- Approved
curriculum crosscheck form
- Verification
of employment as a teacher in area seeking certification
- Favorable
recommendation by employer, director of student teaching
and approval by the dean of the College of Education
SUPERVISION:
- Length
of internship is one academic year (2 semesters)
- Supervision
is provided by a college supervisor assigned by the
director of student teaching
ELIGIBILITY:
- Baccalaureate
degree or higher
- Three
or more years of teaching experience on a temporary
certificate
- GPA
of 2.5 or better overall and minimum of 2.5 in education
and speciality courses with individual course grades
of "C" or better
- Satisfactory
NTE scores
- Approved
curriculum cross check form
- Favorable
recommendation by employer and director of student
teaching and approval by the dean of the College of
Education
SUPERVISION:
- Practicums
are abbreviated versions of student teaching. Placement
is typically in a summer school program with a classrooom
teacher under the direction and supervision of the
Office of Student Teaching.
